ELYRIA VETERAN'S MEMORIAL:
The Elyria Council of Veterans established a group of dedicated volunteers to spearhead the design of a new memorial in Elyria. They worked closely with the City of Elyria and Joseph Ferut Associates, Architects to design a proper and fitting memorial.
The design incorporates two curved linear memorials that lead into the center of Ely Square complimenting the existing Civil War monument and historic Civil War artillery cannon.
The memorials are hand carved in Limestone from the nearby South Amherst quarries, incorporating stone scrolled tablets that commemorate each major campaign, listing the year, number of veterans served, casualties, and deaths. In front of each scroll are pavers in honor of veterans who have served our country. The 1,296 pavers were donated by friends and family of these brave veterans.
The Elyria Veterans Memorial strives to engage, educate and bring forth the emotion of war by those who so bravely served and sacrificed for our freedom.
